Jazz singer Rebecca DuMaine and her father pianist Dave Miller (along with bassist Chuck Bennett and drummer Bill Belasco) release Someday, Someday, a collection of covers with a couple of original tracks by DuMaine. Some of the songs chosen are standards from decades ago yet the lyrics (not to mention such song titles as 'Alone Again (Naturally)' and 'I Guess I’ll Have To Change My Plans') often fit the current global pandemic which has turned everybody's lives upside down... Someday, Someday spreads its net wide to pull in some impressive classic hits, a lot of which don't usually get the coverage they deserve. It was this element that really appealed to me. Yes, while tracks like 'On a Clear Day' are often heard. Gilbert O'Sullivan's wonderfully bleak 'Alone Again (Naturally)' is a beautiful track that you hardly ever hear these days. This song is one of the album's highlights, with Dumaine really tackling it with affection, while the Dave Miller Trio treat it with the respect and subtlety it deserves. We are also treated to two tracks by DuMaine, 'Someday, Someday' and 'Time to Get Unstuck (Happy Little New Song)' and it's impressive how well they slot in with the other songs on the album. A surprisingly upbeat LP, which sees the performers making each song their own, whilst still paying respect to the original material. Track listing: 01. Just Friends - John Klenner/Sam M.
