Milan Records releases the original score for Chaos Walking, with music by Marco Beltrami and Brandon Roberts. In the not too distant future, Todd Hewitt discovers Viola, a mysterious girl who crash lands on his planet, where all the women have disappeared and the men are afflicted by “the Noise” – a force that puts all their thoughts on display. In this dangerous landscape, Viola’s life is threatened – and as Todd vows to protect her, he will have to discover his own inner power and unlock the planet’s dark secrets... Usually when Marco Beltrami's name is linked to a score it's an almost guaranteed sign that it's going to be engaging and packed full of interesting themes. Sadly that seems not to be the case so much here. Other than the closing 'I Am Todd Hewitt' there's nothing to get that excited over. Technically interesting, there aren't any real themes to sink your teeth into. This is more a collection of background pieces of music designed to slot quietly into the film without ever really being noticed. Of course many believe this is a sign of a good composer... but I do like my scores to have something that draws me in - usually melancholic themes. There's nothing like that here, just good solid - if a little dull - background music. Of the soundtrack, Beltrami and Roberts say, "The score for Chaos Walking provided a unique opportunity for us to create a musical language for a fictitious world that was simultaneously both familiar and alien, and in so doing, explore crossing genres that are rarely combined. There are otherworldly sci-fi elements, as well as classic gritty western themes. We had a lot of fun implementing new instruments that would define this cross pollination. It was an adventure to live in this new musical world." 6 Darren Rea Buy this item online
