The Changing Wilderness

Artist: Will Stratton
Label: Bella Union
RRP: £13.99
Release Date: 07 May 2021

Bella Union release The Changing Wilderness, the new album from NY folk musician Will Stratton. This is the artists seventh LP, and follows in the footsteps of his 2007 debut What the Night Said, which he released aged 20, to 2014’s Gray Lodge Wisdom, which documented his bout with cancer, as well as 2017's Rosewood Almanac, a de facto love-letter to song-writing, his guitar, and his favourite records...

Will Stratton's seventh studio album, The Changing Wilderness is a beautifully mellow stripped back acoustic affair. It contains 10 reflective tracks (39 min, 39 sec). This is folk music for those that normally shy away from the genre, as it straddles the line between folk and indie singer/songwriter.

This is one of those rare beasts that works better when played from start to finish, as the songs build as they go. Another rarity is that this is an album where each and every track has its own merit and so its hard, I'd say impossible, to pick out favourites. From start to finish this is a lovingly craft LP with no filler material.
