Saxophonist and pennywhistle player Morris Goldberg performs nine originals songs that pay tribute to his South African heritage and his love of melodic jazz. This 25th Anniversary reissue (which has been enhanced by remastering), was the first recording by Goldberg’s group Ojoyo, which also features trumpeter Chris Botti... Ojoyo Plays Safrojazz is a groovy, chill out album of knockout Jazz that celebrates Morris Goldberg's South African heritage. It is 25 years old and does sound a little dated, but it throws its net wide and is sure to appeal to jazz and non-jazz fans alike. I mean, how can you listen to tracks like 'Cape Doctor' and not totally go with the flow? Goldberg's pennywhistle playing pops up throughout the album and even if (like me) the sound of the instrument fills you with dread, it somehow works well whenever it rears its head. And it never outstays its welcome. It's an upbeat and fun album. While it's not something that you'll dig out all that often, when you do it will bring a huge smile to your face. 9 Nick Smithson Buy this item online
