Milan Records release Atli Örvarsson's original soundtrack to the movie Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard. The film follows Michael Bryce who joins forces with hitman Darius Kincaid and his wife to stop a madman from launching a terror attack on Europe... Atli Örvarsson really hits the sweet spot with this soundtrack. It feels like a ramped up David Arnold James Bond score, mixed with a '60s spy thriller. There's so much to appreciate here that you could listen to this for months and still not pick up on everything. The opening 'The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard' includes a segment that is a mix of Aaron Copland's 'Fanfare for the Common Man' and Arnold's score for Independence Day. And this pretty much sets the tone for what is to come. Listening to soundtracks day in, day out on a permanent basis is a joy, but it can have the effect that slightly deadens your appreciation for the art form. So, when a score like this comes along, it makes me rekindle the passion I've had for soundtracks since the '80s. A beautifully realised collection of themes that not only set the atmosphere for the movie, but are a delight to listen to outside of the medium they were composed for. 9 Darren Rea Buy this item online
