Milan Records release Mathieu Lamboley's score for the second season of Lupin, the French mystery thriller TV series. The plot follows Assane Diop who, inspired by a book about gentleman thief Arsène Lupin, sets out to revenge the death of his father... The music for the second season of Lupin is incredibly well realised. There are elements of John Barry's Bond scores from the '80s mixed in with a passing similarity to Don Davis's work on The Matrix. Action / adventure and suspense themes are the main driving force behind these 14 tracks (35 min, 48 sec). Each theme is allowed to breathe, which is refreshing because so often short music cues are what's on offer with soundtracks of this nature. In fact, 'La Symphonie de Lupin' feels like a work of classical music in its own right. Lamboley really manages to sustain intrigue, suspense and an ever present foreboding for the album's duration. It really is a wonderful, engaging score. 8 Darren Rea |
