Milan Records and HBO release the original soundtrack to the second season of Betty, with music by composer Aska Matsumiya. The show follows a group of female skateboarders in New York City and is based on Crystal Moselle’s 2018 film Skate Kitchen... I was left rather unimpressed by the soundtrack to the first season of Betty, so I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the soundscape for season two is much more impressive. At times it feels like a dreamy, almost trippy, collection of backdrops that simply wash over you. It's weird because there's no instantly memorable themes or set pieces to speak of, but the whole experience (listening from start to finish) is incredibly rewarding. Discussing the project, composer Aska Matsumiya said: "Writing the music for Betty allowed me to be in touch with a side of myself that remains youthful and raw and spontaneous. It was really so much fun and I tried to let that momentum carry the music." It's a modern, vibrant score that will not only be enjoyed by fans of the show, but also by collector's of contemporary soundtracks. 8 Darren Rea Buy this item online
