Caldera Records present Dwight Gustafson’s scores for the motion pictures The Printing (1990) and Beyond the Night (1983). Beyond the Night, tells the story of two missionaries who worked in Nigeria tending to leprosy patients and spreading the word of Christ in an area that was nearly exclusively Muslim. The Printing is set in the Soviet Union and follows Christian believers who, despite being threatened by the communist government which had made it its mission to stifle Christian belief, dare to secretly print Bibles, convinced that God will protect them from the evil schemes of the communists...

Not only are Dwight Gustafson’s scores The Printing and Beyond the Night thematically very similar in style, but both film's subject matter also share some common ground - spreading the word of the Gospel in dangerous territories.

It's impressive how well both of these score's compliment one another, both coming from different angles, but ending up at the same place. In this regard, it's very similar to Caldera's previous release of the late composers scores for Flame in the Wind / Sheffey.

The Printing certainly has a slight edge in conjuring up feeling of menace and suspense and then delivering an emotional pay off. In fact, the further through the album you go, the more intense and emotive the music becomes.

This is another wonderful release from Caldera, who once again deliver music that would never have seen the light of day - and that would have been a sad thing for soundtrack collectors all over the globe.
