Swim Records release Immersion's new LP, Nanocluster Vol 1. Immersion (Malka Spigel and Colin Newman of groups Minimal Compact and Wire respectively) collaborate with artists including Tarwater, Laetitia Sadier, Ulrich Schnauss and Scanner... Nanocluster Vol 1 is an upbeat album, a reminder to grab life and enjoy what the world throws at you. From track to track of this 12 song (47 min, 17 sec) album we're led on a merry dance. The album constantly flips and changes. This is either the album's strength or weakness, depending on your point of view. I did find that I totally fell in love with Tarwater's opener 'Ripples' and 'Mrs Wood', wasn't particularly struck by any of Laetitia Sadier's contributions, was half interested in Ulrich Schnauss's tracks and was left cold by Scanner's lazy contribution. So on balance, as much as I champion the diversity, it wasn't an album I particularly enjoyed as a whole. Others will see this differently, no doubt, but it's unlikely that these very different musical approaches will find many that will uniformly enjoy all of the tracks on the album. 5 Nick Smithson Buy this item online
