LA rocker Kate Clover releases her debut LP, Bleed Your Heart Out, via SongVest Records. The album features AJ Davila/Davila666 + Marion Raw. It calls upon the grit that made '80s/'90s punk so infectious, while adding Clover's unique touch, a blend of retro, authentic rock, rockabilly bass licks, and pop hooks. Ultimately, she channels the past, but makes it her own... Punk rock never died. It's been laying dormant waiting for the political landscape to make it mean something again. The time is right now. The people need something that echoes their angst; their frustration with governments the world over that no longer seem tot represents them... that appear out of touch with reality. To my mind, that's what punk has always been about, taking a collective struggle and general dissatisfaction with how the world is being run, and turning that struggle into something positive. Bleed Your Heart Out is part heavy rock, part punk rock. 'Gnarcissist' is the one song on the album that stands out as something a little different. It's a little more indie rock and I'd argue is probably the catchiest track here. It's a little on the short side. The 10 songs (33 min, 25 sec) whiz by in a flash and I was left feeling a little dissatisfied. I always think that anything less than 40 mins is cheating its audience. Otherwise, this is a strong, modern punk release that reinvigorates the genre. 7 Nick Smithson Buy this item online
