Interscope Records release music from the motion picture Top Gun: Maverick. With a combination of classics from the original film, new music, and score, the album reflects Top Gun’s past, present, and future all at once. It boasts instantly recognizable cuts such as the theme song 'Danger Zone' by Kenny Loggins, while Top Gun: Maverick star Miles Teller recorded a live rendition of 'Great Balls of Fire' showcased in the film and included on the record. Plus, it features original score tracks by the movie’s composers Lorne Balfe, Harold Faltermeyer, Lady Gaga and Hans Zimmer... The soundtrack to Top Gun: Maverick is fairly short, coming in at just 39 min, 01 sec (11 tracks). However, it would have been even shorter if the producers hadn't included Harold Faltermeyer's theme and Kenny Loggins' 'Danger Zone', both repurposed from the original 1986 Top Gun movie. I know I'm old, but I bought the soundtrack to the original movie back in 1986. And, while I played it to death and loved it, 'Danger Zone' is a song that feels a little flat today, as does, if I'm being honest, Harold Faltermeyer's original theme. I also couldn't fathom why the producers included Miles Teller's rendition of 'Great Balls of Fire'. It feels a little like the record label has geared this release towards the mainstream public who have enjoyed the movie, but don't generally buy soundtracks. This isn't really a score for soundtrack collectors who want to just hear Balfe's incredible music. If you strip it back, all you get is 22 min, 21 sec of the new score. Don't get me wrong. I did enjoy this soundtrack, and I really loved the homage to the original theme on 'Top Gun Anthem' but I know that after a few play throughs I'll be skipping almost everything but Balfe's score. As a musical souvenir for fans of the movie this works a treat. For fans of movie scores this is more an EP than an LP. 7 Darren Rea Buy this item online
