Malka Spigel releases Gliding & Hiding via Swim~. Spigel sprang to prominence as bassist and vocalist with Minimal Compact. She’s also an international photographer and video artist. Alongside her partner and long term collaborator Colin Newman, she’s also one half of the electro-kosmiche duo Immersion. The pair are also members of the unique art-pop quartet Githead. Gliding & Hiding gathers together Spigel’s 2014 Gliding EP, with reworked tracks from the 1994 mini-album Hide. The result is a collection that ranges from sunshine pop, to minimal breakbeat techno, all the way to blissed out rock... Malka Spigel's Gliding & Hiding is a laid back, catchy LP that includes 8 tracks (37 min, 49 sec). Elements of rock, pop and modern dance music all come together to create a fluid, memorable listening experience. 'Hacol Zaram Beyachad' was, for me the album's highlight and was the only track I put on repeat for quite some time. That's not to say the rest of the album isn't as engaging. 'Dreamwalking', for example, has a '70s rock vibe that's hard not to get sucked in to. 'Hide' is a classic, hypnotic dance track which comes out of the blue, but is no less welcome. 'Returning Wheel' is a wonderfully imaginative indie track that stays with you. Overall Gliding and Hiding is an album I know I'll return to time and time again for years to come. The diversity on offer really helps show several sides to Spigel's talents as a songwriter. 8 Nick Smithson Buy this item online
