Plaza Mayor Company release Maximilien Mathevon's score for the French documentary Tico Martini: La Legende Magny-Cours. The film charts the 60 year relationship between mechanic, pilot and constructor Martini and the Magny-Cours racing circuit... Maximilien Mathevon, once again, delivers a memorable score that works incredibly well as a standalone project. Tico Martini: La Legende Magny-Cours consists of 24 tracks (45 min, 18 sec). I can hear the roar of the car engines, the crowds cheering and the passion of one man and the sport of racing... all through Mathevon's clever manipulation of sound and emotions. There are a handful of themes that stand out, which are woven throughout this collection. Thankfully each time they appear they are presented in a different way, which stops them from feeling over used. There's a wonderful mix of electronics and live instruments. This is of particular note on tracks like 'Destins Tragiques' where the horn section provides an emotional edge to the music. Other tracks like 'Le Test' and 'Magny-Cours' and 'Monoplace' feel like they could have come straight out of a Star Trek soundtrack, in particular Deep Space Nine. It's an upbeat, life affirming collection of themes and set pieces, just what we've come to expect from Mathevon over the years. 9 Darren Rea Buy this item online
