Navona Records release a two-disc recording of Bach's complete sonatas performed by the mother-daughter duo of flutist Julie Scolnik and pianist Sophie Scolnik-Brower. When Bach composed his flute sonatas, the flute was in its infancy as a replacement for the popular recorder. Likewise, swapping the usual harpsichord for piano helps to deepen the dynamics and phrasing throughout the compositions... For classical music collectors Christmas has come early. Navona Records 2-disc collection (24 tracks - 1 hr, 29 min, 21 sec) of J.S. Bach's Complete Sonatas are performed on flute and piano. The mother daughter due of Julie Scolnik (flute) and Sophie Scolnik-Brower (piano) hold nothing back, putting their own stamp on the works. I must admit that I'm not as familiar with Bach's work here than I should be. And while I've heard them a number of times over the years I don't actually own them all. There's a playfulness to the recording and it's obvious that these are pieces that they love performing. If you're a collector of Bach's work, or just love the pairing of the piano and flute, this is an essential purchase. 9 Darren Rea Buy this item online
