Plaza Mayor Company Ltd release another Maximilien Mathevon creation. Shockwave 2044 is the meeting of an electronic music album and an original soundtrack. That of an imaginary film, a fantastic B movie from the '80s...

By rights I shouldn't like this album. As a teenager in the '80s, who had just started collecting soundtrack albums, the introduction of electronic scores for so many movies always disappointed me. The worst example, for me back then, was Brad Fiedel's music for The Terminator. While it worked well in the film, I just couldn't listen to the soundtrack without being frustrated that it was so flat and uninteresting.

Maximilien Mathevon's Shockwave 2044, looks back with rose-tinted glasses to a period that was all about synths and electronic music being adopted as film scores. The themes Mathevon creates are melodic and captivating and certainly worthy of your time.

Interestingly enough this album draws some parallels to Fiedel's work on The Terminator, but with more heart and warmth.

As always, Mathevon doesn't disappoint. This is a wonderfully rich album with much to recommend it.
