Sony Music Masterworks release Roald Dahl's Matilda The Musical: Soundtrack from the Netflix Film, an album of music from the film inspired by the Tony and Olivier Award-winning musical. The soundtrack features GRAMMY and Tony Award-nominated songs from the original West End production written by Tim Minchin and performed throughout the film, as well as an original score by composer Christopher Nightingale. The film tells the story of an extraordinary girl, with a vivid imagination, who dares to take a stand to change her story with miraculous results... Roald Dahl's Matilda The Musical is a new movie based on the 2011 stage musical, which itself was based on Roald Dahl's original 1988 children's novel. The film includes some of the original songs from the stage version, as well as new songs and a score by Christopher Nightingale, who also composed original incidental music for the musical. The album contains 22 tracks (1 hr, 05 min, 48 sec) with plenty of memorable songs and an atmospheric score. For those who've seen and loved the movie then this is an essential purchase. The film stars Emma Thompson, Lashana Lynch, Andrea Riseborough, Stephen Graham and Alisha Weir as Matilda. All deliver the goods as you'd expect. I did have a slight issue with Weir's vocal performance to begin with (an issue I had with the majority of the child performers. But, once you get used to it you'll have to agree Weir is perfect in the role. It's a heartwarming film with a great soundtrack. The album's closer, 'Still Holding My Hand', is arguably Tim Minchin's finest song here. The album works wonderfully as a standalone collection of songs and score in its own right. 9 Darren Rea Buy this item online
