Kurt works for the world’s largest retailer and is forced to choose between capitalism or activism. Aboard his corporate issued flying JünglePod and armed with his multi-purpose JüngleGun, Kurt dispatches countless products from a fulfillment centre the size of the sunken city of Manhattan. Kurt has dedicated his life to Jüngle, with only his co-bot, Skew to keep him company. But when S.P.E.A.R., a group of activists, asks Kurt to help dismantle Jüngle from the inside, Kurt is forced to discover his employer’s dark underbelly...
The Last Worker is an immersive narrative adventure centred around a lone worker’s last stand in an increasingly automated world, Blending work simulation and stealth strategic gameplay, the game is set in a lonely, oppressive but strangely beautiful environment, with hand-painted characters and environments based on concepts by comic artist Mick McMahon (Judge Dredd, 2000 AD). Right now I'm kicking myself. When I was asked which format I wanted to receive for review, without thinking, I opted for the Xbox version... If only I'd chosen PS5 and then I could have played this in glorious VR on the PSVR2. But that niggle aside, The Last Worker is a fun look at a dystopian workplace of the future. You play as Kurt, the last remaining human worker at sprawling retail Jüngle (even the slowest of the slow will realise which giant online retailer this is lampooning). You're tasked with bringing the giant corporation to its knees... but before that there's mundane chores to be done.
Imagine if Job Simulator (PSVR) was fleshed out a lot more to be a full game and that's the bare bones of The Last Worker... kind of... With minigames, and an engaging, funny narrative, The Last Worker is a game that will stay with you long after you've completed it. You'll also be drawn back to replay it once you've finished it to see if you can unlock the alternative endings. A fun, hilarious, atmospheric offering that doesn't disappoint. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to pick up the VR version. 8 Nick Smithson Buy this item online
