Plaza Mayor Company Ltd release the original score to La Deuxième Étoile by composer Erwann Kermorvant. Even if you don't know anything about the movie you'll instantly realise that this is a festive film. The opening 'C'est Noel' has a traditional style to it that just manages to steer clear of too many of the well trodden cliches. Composer Erwann Kermorvant really sinks his teeth into the score, letting his creative juices run riot. The album contains 20 tracks (31 min, 01 sec) and I was instantly impressed with how diverse each piece was. There are countless themes that appear, with no noticeable rinse and repeat elements used to pad out the score. The end result is a lush collection of memorable themes. I was also drawn to the fact that James Horner's spirit (most notably for his work on family movies like Honey I Shrunk the Kids) pervades tracks like 'Obama Les Masques' (which also has elements of Danny Elfman's gothic work on films like Batman). This is a soundtrack that I've been listening to on and off for several weeks. And each time I revisit it I find something new to love. A wonderfully emotive score that really have something for everyone. 8 Darren Rea Buy this item online
