From the Award-winning composer of Sherlock and Casino Royale comes a follow up to the hugely successful, Emmy nominated Good Omens soundtrack. Good Omens 2 follows the odd couple, angel Aziraphale and demon Crowley in their quest to sabotage the end of the World. The six-episode sequel to the popular adaptation of the novel by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, concerns the Archangel Gabriel arriving without his memories to Aziraphale's bookshop. Aziraphale and Crowley attempt to find out what happened to Gabriel, whilst hiding him from Heaven and Hell, both eager to find him... David Arnold’s soundtrack to Good Omens 2 builds on the themes and set pieces from the first series. Once again Arnold gets to show his impressive creative talents as he spreads his wings and delivers so many emotive themes. Featured here are orchestral arrangements with sprinkling of Sugar Plum Fairy pizzicato and percussion, jaunty strings and mighty choral sweeps from Crouch End Festival Chorus. Added to the mix are rock guitar riffs, and psychedelic '70s sounds and all together they create a haunting otherworldly feel, complementing the fantasy and the quirky humour of the show Not only does Arnold deliver quite a few pieces that reminded me of his incredible work of Stargate (as can be evidenced in tracks like 'Gabriel Returns'), There was also a flavour of many classic composers' works. There's a homage to Danny Elfman's dark gothic work in pieces like 'Avaunt' (which brought to mind Elfman's work on Batman Returns), as well as Christopher Young's choral style on tracks like 'It's What God Wants' (which reminded me of his music for The Fly II) and 'A Mighty Wind' (which is Hellraiser-esque). The album contains 59 tracks (1 hr, 34 min, 59 sec) and I honestly couldn't find a single moment where the quality dipped. There's no bland filler material here. Arnold delivers an album that ranks amongst his best and most varied work. 10 Darren Rea Buy this item online
