Plaza Mayor Company release the soundtrack, composed by Pablo Cervantes, for the biographical documentary El Caso Padilla (The Padilla Case) written and directed by Pavel Giroud. Havana, spring 1971: The poet Heberto Padilla has just been released and appears before the Cuban writers' guild where he intones a "heartfelt self-criticism," declares himself a counterrevolutionary agent and accuses many of his colleagues present, including his wife, of complicity... Pablo Cervantes delivers a subtle score for the documentary El Caso Padilla. In a lot of ways this soundtrack, which contains 18 tracks (40 min, 11 sec), is more an electronic soundscape than it is an album of themes and set pieces. While it does have themes that appear sporadically, it's mainly comprised of atmospheric background noise. Now. usually, this is the sort of soundtrack I shy away from. If there's no emotional connection for me to get behind, then I'm usually left feeling cold and withdrawn from the music. However, Cervantes is adept at weaving a complex narrative through his work here. The closing 'Epilogo ECP', with its meandering passages was one of the album's highlights for me. This is a score that you can easily get lost in. 7 Darren Rea Buy this item online
