All seven series of the Thames Television kids puppet show, is available to here to buy in its entirety for the first time on DVD. Button Moon was originally conceived by Ian Allen as a stage show for his company Playboard Puppets in 1978. The company was later approached by the producers of children’s series Rainbow, who were interested in it becoming a recurring story feature for the programme. Instead, Thames Television commissioned a full series of Button Moon and the show ran from December 1980 to December 1988.

This collection features all 91 episodes, which each run for around 10 minutes. Each episode sees Mr Spoon taking a trip to Button Moon. On his adventures he meets numerous characters, many of whom return from time to time, as well as discovers new and exciting things as well as exploring fear of the unknown. In one episode Mr Spoon helps new friends to get over their fear of a toy dinosaur. Mr Spoon also uses the Button Moon telescope to view things on Earth, like crows on a farm or a dog playing in a garden. These give the young viewers a glimpse of everyday activities that they may be familiar with.

The show has aged rather well and can still be used as an educational programme for the very young.
