Build and star in your own fairytale

Fabledom is not a game for the novice city builder. I found the tutorial fiddly, confusing and un-intuitive. In all honesty I was tempted to quit and not see the game through, but the promise of what was to come was too intriguing to miss out on. Thankfully I ploughed through and once you get used to the very confusing mechanics the gameplay is fairly straightforward.

You star in your own fairytale. Build your humble town, welcome visitors and keep building homesteads for all the new families. Build farms, inns, and industry to ensure your town thrives.

The main problem here is that this game is more geared towards the PC and the mechanics on consoles is not the most intuitive. However, once you get your head around how it works (this will be down to trial and error on your part) it's an incredibly fun and rewarding game.

I did have two major issues. Firstly, the game crashed when I was trying to save it. Thankfully my game was saved so I could carry on where I'd left off after rebooting it. And secondly, I ran out of wood and and had to relocate my lumberjack yard to an area where there were trees. However, as I had no wood left I was unable to build this building, which meant I was unable to collect wood. I assumed that maybe I could send villagers to chop wood... Nope! Maybe if I cleared a wooded area the wood would be collected? Nope! I spent ages online looking for the answer. In the end it was quicker for me to just start a new game and ensure I never ran out of wood. [Edit - Once you build a lumberyard, it's simply a case of adding workers to the "worker" section. They'll start chopping wood before the building is constructed. In addition you can add a forester to ensure that new trees are constantly planted to give to an endless supply of wood].

Engage in a journey through Lloyd's dreams.

I'm sure there is a way to stop this happening, or to assign a villager to cut wood, but I couldn't fathom out how. And when a game's developers fail to make the basics easy to navigate then it's a bit of a poor show.

Building your village is only the start of your adventure, not to mention fun. You'll encounter giants, witches, flying pigs and hidden secrets. My first magical fairytale experience was buying a magic bean which instantly transformed into a giant beanstalk... for exploration later in the game.

Romance will strongly shape the way the game plays out. You must also build your economy, exchange rare resources in order to grow and evolve. You can also interact with other kingdoms. How you handle diplomacy shapes your progress. Build an army, elect your hero to protect your kingdom.

There's so much going on here. The biggest issue is the rather cumbersome and clunky mechanics.
