Worms Armageddon is an old classic

Worms Armageddon was one of the first Playstation games we played as a family. It didn't matter your age, everyone enjoyed playing it. And, because it was just so ridiculously silly no one ever got angry and threw their controller on the floor and stormed out of the room in a sulky mood. Well... That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I was really looking forward to revisiting this old classic and getting in a bit of family time gaming once again. However, like most things you revisit decades later, the experience didn't quite live up to the memories.

I think the biggest issue here is that there's no real helpful tutorial. While there's a tutorial of sorts, it's more of a challenge mode than it is a helpful guide to all of the weapons and the controls (which basically is not very intuitive). The "tutorial", if you can call it that, doesn't tell you how to play the game. It simply gives you a few challenges. Now, this would have been useful to learn how to aim and use the majority of weapons. However, you're given no real instructions and if you fail at any of the challenges then you are sent right back to the start and have to complete them all again.

I've been playing games for decades but I have to say that the gaming mechanics here are pretty poor. As a family, we wanted to revisit our nostalgic memories of this classic game, but the screen looked tiny, the characters were hard to move around and generally it was a bit of a disappointment. I'm probably remembering the past incorrectly, but I'm almost certain that you weren't just thrown in at the deep end with all the weapons available from the start.

There are a few interesting additions to the game

There are a few interesting additions to the game, including an interactive documentary about Worms Armageddon alongside a museum timeline charting the history of the series. Also included is a fully playable version of the game for the world's most popular retro handheld.

There's an arsenal of over 55 classically weird and wonderful weapons and tools including Earthquake, Freeze and French Sheep Strike. Play single-player Deathmatch plus a 40+ mission campaign. There are over 30 custom and comedy sound banks (including stiff upper lip, Cyberworms and more).

Once you get your head around the mechanics of the game you'll slot straight back into multiplayer mayhem. But be warned... It's quite an uphill struggle.
