You get a lot of platform games these days, released by independent producers, usually catering for the retro market, so it’s nice to see a game that looks great on the PS5 and does not look like it should be played on a small LCD screen.
Awaken: Astral Blade is an action RPG that blends a captivating fantasy world with fast-paced combat mechanics, offering an exciting experience. Developed with a distinct artistic style and a deep narrative, this game draws players into a world of astral powers, ancient legends, and high-stakes battles The game is set in a beautifully crafted, mythic world where the boundaries between the astral realm and the physical world begin to unravel. Players take on the role of a powerful warrior who is chosen to wield the Astral Blade, a legendary weapon imbued with incredible power. The protagonist’s journey centres around uncovering the mystery of an ancient force threatening to plunge the world into chaos. The narrative is engaging, full of twists and turns, with a host of memorable characters and factions that add layers to the world-building. Whilst the narrative is not the most original there is enough there to keep your attention with its well-crafted lore and immersive world building. The music adds to the overall air of mystery and the voice acting helps to draw you into this world. Its soundtrack varies between the sweepingly emotional to the driven beat of the combat.
The game contains some high-octane combat, which is fluid on the PS5. Your combination of attacks and astral powers allow the player to string together various, powerful combos in the real time battles, which can be satisfyingly challenging. It makes for a dynamically rewarding experience. Unsurprisingly, but satisfyingly, the game offers character progression to unlock new abilities and improve your overall stats. With the skill trees and ands customisation options the game offers a great deal of replayability. Players can also equip various gear that provides buffs, allowing for even more strategic flexibility. The game runs very smoothly on the PS5, with the game running at 60 fps. There are no issues with the load time and the game uses the controllers’ triggers and feedback well. For a platformer there is much to like here and would interest any player who likes fast paced action combined with elements of an RPG. 9 Charles Packer Buy this item online |
