Maximilien Mathevon's original score, for the documentary Sous nos Yeux, is released via Plaza Mayor Company Ltd. During World War II, people from Normandy filmed their daily lives against a backdrop of mobilization, war, occupation and liberation. These images are a moving testimony of the life of a country during these events... The soundtrack for Sous nos Yeux is a deeply moving, emotive score. The album contains 18 tracks (49 min). Whilst the piano and strings take centre stage for the majority of the music, where it's most emotional is when it employs the flute (as is the case in the track 'Histoires D'une Region'). There are also eerie segments (like the music housed in 'Occupation') and suspenseful themes (which can be heard in tracks like 'Contexte de Guerre'). On balance, there's something here to appeal to all tastes. Discussing the project, composer Maximilien Mathevon says: "It was important to me that the music of Sous nos Yeux remained respectful of these sometimes intimate stories. I had to find an emotion that was accurate and never caricatured, bringing out all the context and the upheavals hidden behind these often falsely innocuous images. The music is intimate and minimalist, mainly using sounds of strings, piano and percussions". This is yet another perfect example of Mathevon going above and beyond in order to deliver a truly incredible score with many memorable themes. 9 Darren Rea Buy this item online
