Based on F. Scott Fitzgerald's 1925 novel, The Great Gatsby is a 2023 musical which takes the tragedy inherent in the original novel and puts a glitzy shine on it. Critics weren't overly impressed by the production's take on Fitzgerald's masterpiece.

Whatever your view on the change in emotional focus, you can't get away from the fact that the musical numbers are memorable and instantly accessible. Most notable the heart and soul of the production is 'For Her' and, more importantly, 'For Her (Reprise)' which captures an emotional performance from Jeremy Jordan (as Jay Gatsby).

The album's 23 tracks (1 hr, 11 min, 27 sec) fly past as you get caught up in the story. As you'd expect from a layered and nuanced musical, the composer tackles numerous styles and musical genres, guaranteeing there's plenty here for all musical tastes.

The performances on this recording are incredibly well polished, representing a glitzy work of art. Overall, a memorable collection of wonderful songs.
