The original soundtrack for Twisters is released via Back Lot Music with music by Benjamin Wallfisch. Twisters marks the return of the epic studio disaster movie. Kate, a former storm chaser haunted by her past, her friend Javi, and Tyler, a reckless social-media superstar storm chaser, come together to try to predict, and possibly tame, the immense power of tornadoes. As storm season intensifies, terrifying phenomena never seen before are unleashed, and Kate, Javi, Tyler and their crews find themselves squarely in the paths of multiple storm systems converging over central Oklahoma in the fight of their lives...

Benjamin Wallfisch's score for Twisters is a loving throwback to action/disaster movie scores of the '80s/'90s. Over the course of 19 tracks (55 min, 05 sec) we are treated to so many memorable themes and set pieces. There's a loving, beating heart at the core of this soundtrack which you'll get hours of listening pleasure from.

Discussing the music, Wallfisch says: "It was such a thrill and joy to work with director Lee Isaac Chung on Twisters. Even in the most intense and powerful action pieces he still manages to always make it feel personal and about the characters. The sheer power and majesty of the storms is always grounded in us rooting for Kate, Tyler, Javi and all the others, and finding a way to capture that balance and tone was the main starting point for the score. As a huge fan of the 1996 movie, it was an honour to have been invited to be a part of this incredible film.”

The score's highlight, for me, was 'Twisters', which delivers so many memorable pieces. Having said that, this is a soundtrack that doesn't waste a minute of its run time on anything other than pieces that move the narrative forward. There's no filler, atmospheric music here.

Opening with 'Nature's Masterpiece', which beautifully sets us up for what is to come, the album then moves on to deliver subtle theme after subtle theme. It's the second half of the score where the power of the twister is felt. Tracks like 'Complete the Triangle' and 'Rodeo' deliver adrenaline fuelled rushes. Elsewhere, pieces like 'After the Storm' and 'Kate's Theme' offer a more melancholic side to Wallfisch's composing.

This is an absolutely stunning collection of deeply layered tracks.
