Cliff Eidelman's original composition The Tempest, a work in three parts, is finally released to purchase, having originally been composed in 1997. The three movements, 'The Storm', 'The Island' and 'Love' have a run time of 18 min, 26 sec...

Probably best known to a wider audience for his score for the 1991 movie Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, composer Cliff Eidelman has never really achieved the fame or notoriety that he so rightly deserves. I have to admit that I'm not familiar with his work, other than the aforementioned Trek movie. In fact, having bought and enjoyed his work on that film, I was surprised that he never really went on to play a bigger part in the film industry.

His credits include the holocaust drama Triumph of the Spirit, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, He’s Just Not That Into You, One True Thing among many others. The composer has also had a concurrent path in the fields of concert music, ballet, choral music, and song.

The Tempest showcases Eidelman's versatility, emotional core and ability to craft subtle, beautifully moving thematic pieces that are emotionally charged.

Discussing the work, Eidelman says: "Though I composed this work and first recorded it with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra in 1997, with so much time gone by and so much more experience and reflection on the piece, I yearned to re-record it again with the same orchestra. Interpreting the piece with a fresh new look, I found myself allowing each section to breathe more deeply and evolve in a more expansive way. In this recent recording session, I loved hearing a few of the musicians identify their own pencil markings in their parts from all those years ago."

This is one of those rare recordings that I enjoyed from the moment I heard it... and with each subsequent listen I've found more and more about it to love.
