Danny & the Champions of the World are back with their first album in 7 years. You Are Not A Stranger Here follows 2017’s Brilliant Light. Produced by Champs keyboard player Thomas Collison the new album features some of Danny George Wilson’s most compelling songs to date. The album was mastered by Barry Grint at Air Studios... You Are Not a Stranger Here feels like a rebirthing. The 10 songs (43 min, 51 sec) sound fresh, whilst exploring genres as diverse as Jazz, Electronic Pop and, in 'Future Past', a little bit of Country. There's even a homage to '80s arcade game music in 'In Search Of Koji'. Talking about the project, front man Wilson says: "The way the record is laid out is across a day. You hear the weather report in the morning and then you're immediately into this question of 'I know what I'm doing, but I don't know why I'm doing it anymore.' As it goes through the day, you get the commute, the hold message from a call centre and finally ending the day back home with 'Sooner or Later.'" 'I'm in Love' is the first single from the album, and has a Dire Straits vibe that's hard to not instantly warm to. I loved the diversity on offer here. It's an offering that their fans will appreciate and it's guaranteed to appeal to a totally new audience too. 8 Nick Smithson Buy this item online
