Elliot Goldenthal is the recipient of the 2024 World Soundtrack Lifetime Achievement Award. To celebrate, Film Fest Gent presents Elliot Goldenthal: Music for Film, featuring new studio recordings of selected pieces from Elliot Goldenthal’s film scores, performed by the Brussels Philharmonic and conducted by Film Fest Gent music director Dirk Brossé... American composer Elliot Goldenthal has composed music for nearly forty films. This album contains 11 tracks (1 hr, 11 min, 36 sec) and offers a diverse look at his output over the years. His work on the Batman movies sees him harnessing not only the spirit of Danny Elfman's work from the earlier Batman movies, but also Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet ballet. Whilst, Cobb's 'The Homecoming' has elements of Jerry Goldsmith's work on Alien. It was great to hear his work on Interview with the Vampire, a score I haven't revisited for years, and I'd forgotten how powerful it is. What this will do, for soundtrack collectors, is offer them a peek into some of Goldenthal's scores they may not have in their collection. And on the back of this I'm sure there are at least a couple of soundtracks you'll be eager to go out and purchase. I know that I'll be adding a few to my list. A wonderfully performed tribute to one of cinema's true great artists and a celebration of the art of powerful soundtracks. 01.
