The Crossing’s new recording of Poor Hymnal is released via Cantaloupe Records. The work was recorded with the composer present at the time of its premiere in December 2023 at Articulate Studios in Bloomsbury, New Jersey. Poor Hymnal was co-commissioned for The Crossing and Donald Nally by Elizabeth and Justus Schlichting, Jill and Loren Bough, and Peggy and Mark Curchack... Choral records can be an ethereal, almost religious experience when everything comes together to deliver an unforgettable recording. The Crossing's latest release, Poor Hymnal, certainly fits into this category. The 14 tracks (53 min, 57 sec) deliver a rich, subtle tapestry of performances that will stay with you long after the last note has faded away. It's an album that can be dipped in and out of, but it flows so well in its intended track listing that you'll find it impossible to leave once you've started listening. Pieces like 'What is Mine (after Elizabeth Warren, Barack Obama, and Saint Basil)' and 'Things That Never Fail (after 1 Corinthians 13)' showcase the power and emotion that can be drawn out of a relatively small choir. 8 Darren Rea Buy this item online
