Sid is a writer struggling with writer's block. In order to pay the bills, he needs to think up a story and apply for a grant - the deadline is today - a lazy Sunday in the middle of summer. His struggle is disturbed by an invitation to attend an unavoidable family obligation - the place Sid grew up in is about to be sold, and his mother wants him to come home for a small party so he can say goodbye to it. With the deadline approaching and his creative juices having frozen, this is not something he's looking forward to. Talk to old friends, run through the fields, swim in the ocean, and solve relaxing puzzles in this warm, slice-of-life narrative about nostalgia and the passage of time...
Forgotten Fields sees you take part in Sid's creative process as you play through a parallel story set in a fantasy world - right out of the book that Sid is attempting to write. The game starts a little slowly with you having to engage in rather mundane activities. It's merely a tool designed to slowly immerse you in Sid's world and the gaming mechanics. If you're not a fan of story driven games, where you'll be reading quite a bit of text in order to slowly unravel the game's narrative, then you'll find this game a little tedious. Personally, I enjoyed the way the storytelling was presented and thought some of the location set pieces were interestingly introduced. Some of the graphics were impressive, but some were not so well realised. It's a well plotted experience that won't break the bank. 7 Nick Smithson Buy this item online
