Step into an interactive winter wonderland as you journey through four enchanting holiday realms...
Save Christmas in this adventure inspired by the beloved 1964 Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer animated classic. If like me, you grew up watching the animated special year after year, then the idea of this game is one that should appeal to you. For me, I had the hopes that this Christmas I'd be able to share the magic with my grandchildren. Sadly, the expectations don't quite match up to reality. This feels like a low budget PS3 game and so the Playstation store's RRP of £35 was a little too much to swallow. Thankfully you can pick up a brand new physical disc edition from retailers for around £15... but even then the game still feels a little on the pricey side. For the very young gamer this, at first glance, appears to be the perfect little game. However, the precision for some of the jumps to reach higher platforms is just too fiddly. Another issue is the camera, which has a habit of getting lodged in the scenery, meaning you can't see where you are supposed to go. Not so much an issue when aimless wandering around the landscape, but it's a real pig when you're trying to navigate a tricky platform area.
The game is quite simple, when it's not bugging out, and for fans of the animated special, there are plenty of nostalgic moments to enjoy. Over the course of the game you get to play as Rudolph, Clarice, Hermey and Yukon Cornelius – each with their own abilities. And the narrator, the snowman, is incredibly similar to the original special's voice talent - provided by Burl Ives. I really wanted to enjoy this game, but sadly it's way too overpriced for a very dated looking offering. If you can pick it up for under £10 then I'd recommend you getting it if you're a fan of the animated special. 4 Darren Rea Buy this item online |
