Simone Cilio's original score for Gunner is released via Plaza Mayor Company Ltd. The movie tells the story of a retired fighter pilot who is recalled to active duty after he witnesses the death of his wing man... The soundtrack for Gunner is a hidden gem, with the 16 tracks (35 min, 47 sec) pretty much covering every conceivable aspect of movie soundtracks. I have had this on pretty much repeat since receiving it for review and I have to admit that on each play through I found something new to appreciate. While it's mostly comprised of epic-based themes (as housed in tracks like 'Retirement' and 'The Accident'); there's also melancholic themes (like 'I Lost Him', and 'Atlantic Fleet' and 'Wings'); and adreneline-based action themes (as can be heard in 'Dog Fight' and 'Mission Accomplished'). There's absollutley no filler material here. This is all grade A material. And, suprisingly, there's no "go to" theme which is constantly referenced. I was impressed at how many solid, standalone themes there were. Whilst it's perfect to put on in the background and relax to, I found it really good to have on whilst playing games. It really adds to the atmosphere. An incredibly emotive score that is certainly one you'll get hours of listening pleasure out of. 10 Darren Rea |
