Lovely/Gross release the original motion picture soundtrack for Disfluency, with music by composer Nathan Alexander. To everyone’s surprise, “Jane the Brain,” flunks her final college class and retreats to her Michigan hometown by the lake. It’s not long before this misstep feels more like an opportunity at one last care-free summer vacation. Despite her best efforts, however, Jane can’t keep the real reason that caused her academic disruption bottled up. She struggles with imposter syndrome, and her PTSD boils over. With the support of those around her, Jane unravels herself and starts the never-ending healing process of life after sexual assault... I rather enjoyed this modern score, with it's hypnotic, lilting presence. There's a spirit and otherworldly feel here that allows the listener to soak up a sort of carefree, exploration vibe, that is the heart of the movie. Discussing the score, composer Nathan Alexander says: "'I want the score to sound like water'. - Those were the first words Anna Baumgarten [director] said to me when we met to discuss the score for Disfluency. Jane is the water of the lake where she feels at home and at peace and we had to place her there in the music. Wave-cresting chorused guitars and lake-reflected percussion are the foundation of Jane’s heartbeat; whispering intimate strings, breathing woodwinds, bowed guitars and watery kalimbas living under the surface of Jane all weave the complication of turning disruptive trauma into hope. I am truly grateful to have contributed my own authentic voice to the very personal and brave story Anna has brought into the world." It's a soulful release, and these 16 tracks (33 mins) will stay with the listener long after the final note has beautifully trailed away. 7 Darren Rea Buy this item online
