Lakeshore Records release Blood Hive 3, the original score rom the TV series Yellowjackets. The music is composed by Craig Wedren, frontman for D.C.-based seminal post-hardcore band Shudder to Think, and Anna Waronker of indie pop icons That Dog. In season three, as summer arrives, the Yellowjackets face a fragile victory - the brutal winter that nearly claimed them is finally behind them, but distrust in leadership and tension within the team jeopardize their chances of being rescued. In the present, long-buried secrets from their pasts begin to surface. As the women fight to keep their lives from unraveling, they must confront a chilling question: who are they really, and what dark truths are they hiding from each other and themselves...? The album opens with the song 'Sleepwalking', a memorable track that kicks the soundtrack off with a bang. The rest of the score will either be something that fans of the show really enjoy, or will leave them feeling a little flat. When listened to outside of the show, this electronic score has a tenancy to feel a little disjointed. It's so diverse that it will surely split fans down the middle. Personally, while I enjoyed the technical merits of the music, it's not one I'd want to listen to all that often for the sheer pleasure of it. Discussing the music, composers Craig Wedren and Anna Waronker Wedren, said: "Season three was a kaleidoscopic moving-puzzle of interweaving stories, relationships, and timelines that allowed - and pushed - us to explore and expand in awesome new musical directions, while continuing to build upon the sound of the first two seasons. From the forest floor, to frog orgies, to cave hallucinations, and finally to scoring Lottie’s murder with our new original song 'Sleepwalking', we were encouraged by the story, the visuals, and our visionary producers, to explore and experiment sonically and harmonically, discovering whole new wings of the haunted, fractal funhouse that is Yellowjackets." If you're not a fan of modern, avant-garde electronic scores, then you might want to give this one a miss. 5 Darren Rea Buy this item online
