Yoshihiro Hanno's original score for Gangs of Taïwan (Locust) is released via Plaza Mayor Company Ltd. Against the backdrop of the 2019 Hong Kong protests, Zhong-Han, an average twenty-something in Taiwan, balances a day job at a family restaurant with nightly gang activities, until the restaurant's ownership changes hands... The original score for Gangs of Taiwan is, for the most part, a modern electronic soundtrack full of ambient sound. Of this album's 17 tracks (44 min, 53 sec) only 'Locust Theme' offers a traditional melodic piece of music. In fact, the final two tracks 'Sound 11' and 'Rebels Of The Neon God' are just chaotic "noise". Personally, this is not the sort of soundtrack I enjoy listening to outside of the confines of the project it was composed for, but fans of electronic atmospheric music will no doubt find much to entertain them. It's atmospheric and attention grabbing, and I know that it adds another layer of tension in the movie, but listened to in isolation it feels a little out of place. Perfect for the movie, just not something I'd want to listen to on its own merits. 6 Darren Rea Buy this item online
