Plaza Mayor Company Ltd release Romain Trouillet's original score for the movie C'était Mieux Demain. In a small French town in the 1950s, Hélène, Michel, and their two children live happily until they are propelled into 2025. Their time-travel journey is not be without its challenges. The couple discovers a modern world completely unlike the one they know. For Hélène, who has always lived properly in her husband's shadow, it is a revolution. But for Michel, who sees his male privileges shattered, it is a catastrophe...

Romain Trouillet's score for C'était Mieux Demain contains an incredible amount of engaging content. There's genre defying themes that span the gamut of cinematic styles. The album contains 17 tracks (18 min, 56 sec) and whilst the movie is a sci-fi comedy, the score never leans on lazy cliche gimmicks. The music is sweet, atmospheric and memorable - ensuring this is one album I'll be adding to my favourite playlist.

Tracks like 'Electrocution', 'Le Voyage Temporel' and 'Retour dans le passé showcase the suspense and mystery of the unknown; whilst pieces like 'La Routine' have a light, airy cha-cha-cha charm. The jazz-enfused 'Jacques' adds a little departure from the norm, and works beautifully. Whilst, 'Petit André' houses a memorable, fun little ditty.

'Un Courrier Inattendu' has an air of the score for Mrs Doubtfire. And I loved the fact that a nod and a wink was given to Alan Silvestri's score for the Back to the Future trilogy in 'Le Reveil'. 'Flashback' houses the movie's love theme, a theme which is echoed very subtly throughout the score, an underlying memory running through even the lightest moments. The piano converses with the orchestra, which unfolds sweeping phrases to illuminate the irony of the temporal shock.

Whilst this is an incredibly short score, I really fell in love with both its range and complexity.
