The worldwide hit series 24 introduced us to Jack Bauer,
Special Agent of the LA Counter-Terrorist Unit. Over the past
four years, millions of viewers have avidly followed his labyrinthine
plots and nail-biting suspense. Now fans can go behind the
scenes of the first two seasons thanks to this official companion...
At
long last Titan has released a guide book that is bursting
with colour photographs. It's just a pity that the textual
content is so dull.
To
be honest, and this criticism could be levelled at the majority
of guide books, there's nothing here that can't be found on
any one of a thousand fan websites. It's also a little late
in the day to be releasing a guide book for episodes that
were first shown years ago.
Each
double page spread is split into a different hour time period
and the main text simply breaks down the plot developments
and at what time they occur. Also included are little bits
of trivia and information on the show as it develops. There
is also a feature on creating the show, as well as an interview
with Jack Bauer himself, Kiefer Sutherland and character profiles
on the main characters.
Telos
Publishing printed a much more interesting guide
back in 2003 for the show's first season. That had humour,
and some interesting info that showed that the author had
bothered to go out and think of ways to entertain fans - these
include Points at Which Kim/Teri Needs a Slap (and
there are many); You May Remember Me From... (a guide
to guest stars previous acting appearances) and Soundtrack
(which lists any musical influences).
The
dry contents of this "official companion" really
didn't impress me at all. Though, I'm sure fans of the show
will get something out of it. Nice presentation - shame about
the content.
