The satellite is not only tracking the planet's citizens...
but also the movements of every metahuman on Earth. Originally
designed by the Batman, Brother
I has
been usurped by the government's Checkmate spy division. Worse,
Checkmate has also been hijacked by the insane Maxwell Lord,
who has reprogrammed the satellite to serve his twisted goals.
Checkmate is struggling for it's survival and Earth's superheroes
have to contend with OMACs, normal humans who can be turned
into armoured warriors with a single command...
The
OMAC Project is part of the Infinite Crisis series
of graphic novels - an unnecessarily complicated titled line
of stories that encompasses Crisis on Infinite Earths
as well as a range of other themed release (including JLA
and Superman tales) and concludes with the release
of Infinite Crisis later this year (2006).
Batman's
secret weapon, the Brother I satellite is now in the
hands of the mysterious Checkmate group - which means that
they know everything that Batman does, including every superhero's
secret identity. Not only that, but the new head of the group,
the insane Maxwell Lord, now has the ability to transform
any human into an invulnerable killing machine known as an
OMAC.
One
of the biggest problems with this collection is the fact that
the teaser on the back of the book gives away a little too
much information. A third of the way through this story, something
unexpectedly happens to one of the characters. Unfortunately
this was mentioned in the teaser, and spoiled the revelation.
For
those who are unfamiliar with Checkmate, Maxwell Lord, or
Sasha Bordeaux, there is a brief introduction at the start
of this collection that will help you to know everything you
need in order to enjoy this tale fully.
The
writing and art work is top notch, and only the most hard
to please comic reader will not find something of merit in
this pleasing collection.
