Eight of the best JLA stories - some reprinted here for the
first time - are assembled in this must-have collection for
all fans of CD's premier super team. Read the adventures starring
iconic characters such as Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman,
Flash, Green Lantern, and more - classic tales that have inspired
some of today's mega-popular hits like Identity Crisis...
                  The
                    Greatest Stories Ever Told is
an odd release. Who decided that these tales represent the
JLA at their best is anyone's guess. You may think that Mike
Tiefenbacher (comics historian/indexer) chose the stories
for inclusion, but he makes no mention of the fact in his
introduction - and to be honest his essay is just a brief
                    history of the series.
                  Oddly
enough there wasn't one story in this collection that I would
include in my "greatest story" list of JLA tales,
but then again that's the problem with collections like this.
                    It's all subjective.
                  It
would seem that to make it into this "greatest story"
collection that the tales had to show the JLA being over powered
by another group that were their doubles, or the fact that
they all were forced to revealed their identities to one another.
In fact, more than one of these tales was just a reworking
                    of another in this collection.
                  While
the early stories are interesting from an historical point
of view, I'd stop short of calling them classic tales, or
even including them in this collection.
                  What
would be more interesting is if DC were to reprint all of
the JLA tales in chronological order as they are doing
                    with their Batman
                    and Superman
                    collections.
                  That
said, this is still a great collection that JLA fans
                    will be impressed by.
