The Earth wakes up one day to a brand-new world order - one in which Superman and Batman rule with an iron fist. Humankind has a choice: Obey or die. How did things get this way? And is anyone left who can stop them? Before long, the World's finest duo is sent careening through a series of bizarre alternate Earths, facing an assortment of classic DC characters including Kamandi, Sgt. Rock, Haunted Tank, and many more...!

Absolute Power is one of the best Superman/Batman stories I've read. The main narrative unfolds in an alternate Earth where Superman and Batman have led very different lives. Firstly, Superman was not found by Martha and Jonathan Kent when his spacecraft fell to Earth (well, he was, but then someone killed them and took Superman to raise as their own) and Batman's parents were not killed in Crime Alley. Instead Bruce Wayne grew up knowing his parents and preparing to take over the family business when his father retired.

While both Kent and Wayne still became Superman and Batman, they were now both working for a mysterious group of aliens which has decided that the best way to rule Earth is with an iron fist. The Justice League of America has been destroyed, as have many other superheroes, to ensure that these aliens plans are carried out uninterrupted. The Green Arrow is one of the few remaining superheroes who still tries to keep law and order on his streets. However, with Superman and Batman on his back, things are not that easy.

But as our heroes are thrust into different realities (including an amusing homage to Planet of the Apes) it start to become apparent that someone is deliberately altering the timeline to fit their needs.

Yet again Jeph Loeb weaves an intriguing tale that will have Batman and Superman fans on the edge of their seats... If you are a true Batman or Superman fan then you need to add this to your collection now.
