Due to popular demand, and after a long break, comes a
fifth volume of episodes from the irreverent radio comedy
series which ran between 1964 and 1973. Starring John Cleese,
Tim Brooke-Taylor, Graeme Garden, David Hatch, Jo Kendall
and Bill Oddie, ISIRTA is a mix of quickfire sketches,
bad puns, humorous songs, and TV and cinema parodies. It quickly
developed a cult following, and was the forerunner of The
Goodies and I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue...
Volume
5 of I'm Sorry I'll Read That Again (ISIRTA)
contains another four episodes of the classic BBC radio comedy
sketch series. While the blurb on the back of the CD case
mentions that this show was the forerunner of The Goodies
and I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue, it's also very likely
that Monty Python has a lot to thank ISIRTA
for - apart from John Cleese.
Some
of the gags don't work that well, mainly being products of
their time, but the majority do. In fact the gags and play
on words come so quickly that you can be excused for missing
the odd joke.
Hopefully
there is now enough interest in the show to prod the BBC into
considering releasing them in series collections. This CD
contains 2 CDs and consists of three episodes of Series
Six and one episode from Series Nine.
The
episode from Series Nine (Episode Three) was
originally broadcast in November 1973 and it's by far the
funniest episode in this collection. It mainly consists of
a series of gags about "new" stereo broadcasting
and a fairly long Star Trek sketch.
If
you remember this series from the original broadcasts then
you won't need any prompting by me to get you to purchase
it. If you've never heard an episode before, but loved The
Goodies or Monty Python, this is well worth investing
in.
