Everybody knows Tracy Beaker, Jacqueline Wilson's best-loved
character. But what do they know about the little girl who
grew up to become Jacqueline Wilson? Wilson takes a look back
at her own childhood in this captivating story of friendships,
loneliness, books, toys, parents and much more. She explores
her early years with the same warmth and lightness of touch
that shows in her novels, and sensitively covers different
topics like her parents' extra-marital affairs. Charming and
revealing, this book is a delight for all of Jacky's fans
and a treat for any new readers too...
Jacky
Daydream is
the life story of Jacqueline Wilson (or Jacqueline
Aitken as she was born). Not only will this six CD collection
give her fans an insight into the author's early life, but
it also tests them on how much they really know about her
books. Every now and then Wilson asks a question that is related
to one of her novels - to make sure that fans were paying
attention.
I
have to admit that, when I first realised that Wilson was
going to be reading this collection herself, I was a little
apprehensive about whether this was going to be a hard slog
to listen to. Author's are not always the best people to read
their own work out aloud. Thankfully Wilson does this collection
justice. Her delivery is natural and easy on the ears. In
fact at times I forgot I was listening to an audiobook, as
I could vividly picture the scenes as Wilson relayed them.
Fans
will hear how Wilson played with paper dolls like April in
Dustbin Baby; how she dealt with an unpredictable father
like Prue in Love Lessons; how she sat entrance exams
like Ruby in Double Act; and most of all how she loved
reading and writing stories. Losing herself in a new world
was the best possible way she could think of spending her
time.
Anyone
who wants to discover a little more about their favourite
author really should pick this collection up - you won't regret
it.
