The war in Heaven is over. The plains of Armageddon are still,
and the blood which ran across them like rivers has dried
to dust. A new order has risen in Yahweh's Creation, and those
who survived its birth must now try to resume their lives
in its aftermath. For some, new-found responsibilities will
weigh heavy. For Lucifer Morningstar, victory promises freedom
                    - the ultimate freedom to choose his own fate. But apart from
wrapping up the new loose ends he has left in this universe,
there is one final test that the Fallen One must carry out
                    before taking his leave...
                  Evensong
is the eleventh and final chapter in the Lucifer series
of graphic novels by Mike Carey. And what a way to go out!
                  It
is the final chapter in the former ruler of Hell's extraordinary
existence, as Lucifer concludes his quest to break free of
God's influence and forge his own destiny.
                  The
war is over. Elaine Belloc, daughter of the Archangel Michael,
watches over our world; Mazikeen has bested her mother, Lilith,
and the legions of Hell; Jill Presto has come to terms with
her godlike daughter, Noema. But there are still a few things
for the Lightbringer to take care of - including the final
fate of former angel Gaudium and a bittersweet reunion with
                    treacherous Underworld goddess Izanami...
                  This
collection opens on what at first seems to be a very odd way
to start the last chapter in the series. Fireside Tales
sees a human male enter a storytelling contest that is usually
only entered by female centaurs. It's an odd tale, but interesting
and, on reflection, is a wonderful way to open this collection.
                  The
rest of the stories reprinted here wrap up a few loose ends
as well as bringing Lucifer face to face with his maker once
again. It would seem that god has a deal he wants to offer
Lucifer, one that will cost them both as well as benefit them
both. Will Lucifer be reunited with his creator? Or will he
decline the offer and keep his freewill?
                  Fans
of the series will not be disappointed - this was well worth
                    the wait.
