Home and Away began its life in 1988 on the Seven Network in Australia. Set in the fictional town of Summer Bay the show originally revolved around the lives of Pippa and Tom who took in a succession of foster children. Over time the focus of the show widened to include the stories of many more of the inhabitants of Summer Bay and continues to be made and shown...

Weddings, what would a soap do without them? Thankfully for the folk of Summer Bay they seem to go off with few of the unpleasantness of an Eastenders wedding. This is mostly because Home and Away has predominantly been a soap about fairly decent people and not a bunch of nihilistic social inadequates.

If you have a favourite Home and Away wedding then there's a good chance it's on this DVD as Kate Ritchie, who played Sally, takes us thorough twenty-one weddings ranging from the 1988 marriage of Ailsa and Alf, though between my eyesight and the rather dodgy colour scheme of the menu, I initially thought it heralded the more progressive marriage of Alf and Alf, right up to the 2005 marriage between Amanda and Graham.

Ritchie effortlessly narrates the show, introducing both the clips and a selection of the actors talking about their experiences. Like the companion, Home and Away: Romances, the tone is light-hearted. The show is presented in stereo and although it is wide screen, this is achieved by placing a blurred and zoomed portion of the picture either side of the original 4:3 frame. The effect works surprisingly well and does not detract from the main action.

As a bonus, the disc also sports the complete episode about Leah and Vinnie's wedding, a strange choice I thought, as you would have assumed that they would have picked Alf or Sally as the longest running members of the cast, though my personal vote would have gone to Marilyn's wedding as this is not only the period I watched the program the most but also because I used to fancy Marilyn, there was something about the combination of sex and stupidity that was irresistible.

So, another surprisingly pleasant walk down memory lane for Home and Away fans.
