There is a planetoid on course for Earth. Volcanologist Harry
Bottoms has assembled a crack team of disaster specialists
to combat the impending end of the world. The team, including
major Sandy Mellons, V.D. Johnson and Donkey Dixon, have joined
forces with an ASSA (American Space Studies Administration)
flight crew and a flatulent French astronaut. Numerous complications
hound the mission. With their knowledge from Hollywood blockbusters;
Armageddon, Twister, Alive, Deep
Impact and Apollo 13, can these unlikely heroes
save the earth from disaster?...
Disaster
the Movie
is a claymation movie that spoofs any one of a hundred different
Hollywood disaster films. Unfortunately it gets very tiresome
very quickly. There really isn't enough here to keep the movie
plodding on for its duration and the whole thing is stretched
to breaking point.
To
be honest there's nothing overly surprising here. Subtlety
is not the name of the game and there are way to many unfunny
sex and farting jokes. So it probably won't come as any surprise
to learn that this is the brainchild of Roy T. Wood the creator
of Celebrity Death Match - another short gag that was
stretched to breaking point and ended up becoming annoying.
While
this movie is far from a disaster, it's not overly great either.
Great fun for anyone aged between 12-14, who sadly won't be
able to watch this because it has a 15 certificate.
Another
word of warning - you might like to double check the RRP.
The press release we received quoted it as £9.99, whereas
every online store we've checked claims it retails for £12.99.
I've
no idea if there are any extras either. The press release
doesn't mention any and we were sent a DVD-R check disc that
only contained the movie. The review disc also had the words
"Property of Dean Entertainment" printed at the
bottom of the screen through the entire film, which also managed
to obscure the occasional subtitle that popped up, as well
as the captions that tell the viewer what location the next
scene is set in.
Think
long and hard before parting with your money. While there
are some funny jokes buried amongst all the crass cheap laughs,
they don't come along that often.
