Set in the city that never sleeps, CSI: New York is
the latest spin-off from the hugely popular CSI series. Following
on from Vegas and Miami, this CSI has
a distinct New York City flavour and style. Dealing with a
city with a three hundred year history and eight million residents
is a whole different ball game...
                  The
first half of Season Three of CSI: New York
                    contains some great episodes. Highlights
                    include:
                  Not
What it Looks Like: Three women dressed as Holly Golightly,
from Breakfast at Tiffany's, rob a jewellery store.
During the heist one of the managers is killed when a shotgun
discharges. In another part of the city the mummified body
of a woman is discovered when an old building is being demolition.
The corpse turns out to be the missing wife of a city councilman.
Even though the autopsy concludes she died of natural causes,
                    Mac believes she was murdered.
                  Hung
Out to Dry: During a college party a student is found
decapitated - her body hung upside down from a ceiling fan.
In another part of the city another victim is found impaled
on a tree, his eyes gouged out and two railroad spikes inserted
into his head. Both victims were wearing unique shirts that
contain hidden codes that could provide clues to the killer's
                    identity.
                  Oedipus
Rex: Carensa is a young girl who at 17, wanted a change
of scenery and to become a Suicide Girl, at 18 she gets her
wish only to lose her life. Another crime involves a rising
basketball star who is discovered dead on an outside court
a day after he defeated a professional player in a one-on-one
game that embarrassed the NBA star, known for his violent
                    outbursts.
                  Murder
Sings the Blues: During an illegal subway train party,
a young woman starts bleeding from her eyes, nose and mouth.
Examining the crime scene, Mac believes she may be the victim
of a biological attack. Later, Mac learns that one of his
investigators dated the victim. Across town, a wealthy playboy
is found dead in an indoor pool in his penthouse suite. The
probe reveals the man was murdered and that he had fired his
                    maid two days earlier.
                  Consequences:
A professional paintball player is gunned down after he enters
a warehouse. He was playing a paintball game with a rival,
who is now missing. The investigation reveals the murder may
be linked to illegal drugs and that a bent cop may be involved.
Stella gets the feeling she is being stalked, but when Mac
chases down the suspect he gets an unexpected surprise.

Raising Shane: A man wearing a green hooded sweatshirt
robs a bar and guns down a barmaid. Soon afterward, a suspect
matching the killer's description is arrested and positively
identified by the only witness. The suspect is Hawkes. Mac's
team is immediately pulled from the case, but that doesn't
stop Mac from trying to discover the truth. In another part
of the city a man is found dead in a peepshow booth. At first,
it appears the man overdosed, but Stella believes he was murdered.
                  This
collection sees two episodes where poor old Hawkes is under
suspicion of being involved in separate murders. We also get
to see a little more of Lindsay Monroe's secret past, and
just why she is so frightened of grisly crime scenes - something
that will no doubt be explained a little more in the remaining
                    half of this season.
                  Extras
are a little thin on the ground in this collection. There
are no audio commentaries or featurettes. We do, however,
get two cross episodes (one is a repeated episode from Season
Two, while the other is the conclusion to that episode
(which was originally on the CSI:
Miami: Season 4 - Part 1 DVD). We also get,
for some very odd reason, synopsis for each episode in this
                    collection.

the end of the day this is another great collection which
                    CSI fans will enjoy.
