The Passions of the past quickly re-ignite as one scroll seeks
to undo two powerful tribes. Death is on the wind, and the
storm continues unabated. The Iga set out to rewrite the rules
of deceit, made possible by deepest affection, as Gennosuke
and Oboro stand facing one another across a river of animosity.
But as reason is lost to hatred, ambition tips the hand of
the treacherous. Kouga warriors in disguise delve deep within
the enemy stronghold to unearth the truth, revealing both
innocence taken and innocence lost. As the darkness pervading
the sky seeps into the souls of men, blood lingers in the
rain and the flood is unleashed. No mercy will be spared to
the enemy...
Basilisk
tells a story of star-crossed love set against the backdrop
of a bloody conflict between two rival ninja clans. Based
on the popular manga by Masaki Segawa, itself an adaptation
of best-selling author Futaro Yamada's 1958 historical novel
The Kouga Ninja Scrolls, and produced by Studio Gonzo
(Speed Grapher; Samurai 7; Gantz;
Burst Angel), Basilisk is a character-driven
period piece packed with super-ninja combat action and plenty
of graphic bloodshed.
Episodes
on Volume 2 include:
The
Surprise Attack: The
Kouga clan are a little concerned that something is going
on that they don't know about. After years of peaceful coexistence
with the Iga clam, the Kouga get the distinct feeling that
something bad is on the horizon. After receiving a frosty
reception at the Iga camp Saemon decides to send his younger
sister, Okoi, to find Gennosuke and work out what is going
on.
Longing
In The Rain: The
Kouga clan, now realising something drastic is going on, decide
to investigate. However, when the Igas find Okoi, one of the
Ten Kouga, they decide to capture her.
Blood
Sucking Seductress:
Rousai interrogates Okoi, in a bid to find out the fighting
abilities of the remaining Kougas, however Okoi has a few
tricks up her sleeve to ensure her escape.
Cage
Of Blood: With
Rousai dead and lord Teyasu's ninja scroll lost to the Iga
the plan to kill the Kouga, before they realise what is going
on, is slowly falling apart. With her dying words, Okoi tells
Saemon the registry's true location. Determined to make it
out alive, Saemon will hold up his ruse long enough to walk
out with the scroll in his hands and take vengeance for his
sister's death along the way.
Extras
include Behind the Scenes of Basilisk (2 x 32 min featurettes
that sees some of the Japanese voice actors being interviewed);
textless opening and closing titles; and trailers.
Another
entertaining addition to the series.
