James Dial, a former sniper who worked as a CIA Operative,
is coaxed out of retirement to finish a hit on a terrorist
who had previously evaded him. The final job takes him from
his ranch in Montana to London where he completes his mission
and kills his target. However, when his getaway doesn't go
as smoothly as planned he is soon on the run from US and UK
authorities. And to make matters worse he also becomes framed
for killing a British detective...
The
Contractor could
have, and should have, been an interesting action movie. All
the ingredients are there and the cast are all perfect in
their roles. But something, and I still can't put my finger
on it, is sadly missing.
Two
of the biggest issues I had were the use of poor music and
the snapshot style of cinematography that is used every now
and then for no good reason. This visual style adds nothing
to the action sequences and is just too distracting.
Even
Wesley Snipes's acting isn't enough to save this movie as
it spirals into incomprehensible nonsense. The only scenes
I really enjoyed were between Snipes and Eliza Bennett - who
plays a young girl who befriends Snipes's character.
Extras
include A Look Inside the Contractor (21 mins behind
the scenes featurette) and trailers for other films (which
are obviously so important that they are mentioned on two
menus.
I
was going to waffle on about many other aspects of this film
that let the whole thing down, but to be honest I can't be
bothered. It's pretty poor - that's all you need to know.
Even Snipes fans should avoid this one.
